England - North York Moors to Scarborough

Just outside the church you get a great view of Whitby Harbour, which is probably where Captain James Cook got his taste for the sea. From what we have pieced together as we travelled around this region, he was born in Marton-in-Cleveland, grew up on a farm at Great Ayton, and at 17 was apprenticed to a shopkeeper at Staithes. After that he spent some time in Whitby as a ship owner's apprentice.
